HUGUELY REUNION CAREER/COLLEGE/EMPLOYMENT MENTORING PROGRAM
FOR YOUTH and YOUNG ADULTS
PURPOSE
The establishment of a databank of family members who are willing to serve as mentors for high school and college students in the areas of career choices, career experiences, business opportunities, internships, selection of colleges , college career and life preparation.
PROVISION OF MENTORING
The Mentoring can occur by telephone, skype, in-person or other electronic media as may be appropriate. The Mentors will be volunteer Huguely Family members who are willing to share their career experiences with high school and college students. There is no requirement for face to face meetings; however, Mentor and Mentees are encouraged to meet during the annual reunion for a face to face meeting.
STRUCTURE
A databank will be established on the Huguely Reunion website of family members volunteering to serve as Mentors and who have completed the Mentor data form in order to be listed in the Mentor databank on the Huguely Reunion website.
Information to be included in the databank is as follows:
- Name
- Huguely Reunion Branch
- Phone Number (the preferred number for a Mentee to reach the Mentor)
- Occupation
- College/Training
- Area of Mentoring Expertise
- Preferred Time of Day for Contact (e.g. weekends or week days between 6 and 9 PM( Central))
DUTIES OF MENTORS
Mentors will mentor their mentees in the areas delineated under section entitled, PROVISION. Mentors should not take on parental or medical guidance. The Huguely Reunion is in no way liable for any activities of the Mentors.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF MENTEES
It is the responsibility of the mentee to contact individuals included in the Huguely Reunion Mentor databank if they wish to participate in the Mentoring Program. The Mentee should develop potential discussion questions and items for discussion before contacting the mentor. The first contact with the Mentor should be by brief telephone call or email requesting a specific time for a more in depth session to occur.
OTHER
Databank of Mentors will be published in the yearly Huguely Reunion Newsletter and maintained and updated quarterly on the Huguely Reunion website.
Recipients of the Huguely Reunion Scholarships are expected to complete information for the databank so that they can serve as peer mentors for high school students.
